Jason Hahr, Board Member
Jason Hahr is 38 years old and lives in Ocala, FL. He earned a Master’s in Education and a dual bachelor’s in history and theater from Pennwest at Edinboro. He was born with Cerebral Palsy and has been a passionate advocate for people with disabilities his entire life. In 2013, after being wrongfully denied the opportunity to complete student teaching by his school, he began a blog entitled The Voiceless Minority. Eleven years later, the blog has transformed into a powerful voice for not only those with developmental disabilities but all disabilities. He believes the disability community is often an underserved and underappreciated segment of society that is frequently taken advantage of. He joined the board of The Inclusive Hive because he believes that for people with disabilities to occupy an equal place in society, they must make gains in several areas and that inclusive housing is an essential piece of a multi-piece puzzle that can lead to overall independence and personal growth.
Before joining the board, another way Jason advocated for people with disabilities was in the political arena. He has not run for office, but he believes that everyone, regardless of ability or inability, has a voice and has the right to be heard. Along with his colleagues, Debra Deitz from Disability Independence Group and Tony DePalma of Disability Rights Florida founded the Florida chapter of the national movement known as Rev Up, which stands for Register, Educate, Vote, Use Your Power. The American Association of People with Disabilities started the Rev Up movement. The Florida chapter was founded in 2018. That summer, they began meeting with other stakeholders because many in Florida’s disability community thought the election process was not designed to include people with disabilities.
Jason stepped away from the organization in 2022 not because his passion for people with disabilities had changed. Rather, he felt that the organization was at the point where it could be self-sustainable. In 2022, he became a Florida SAND Fellow. He continued to advocate on behalf of people with disabilities. In 2024, his Fellowship with FL SAND ended. He continues to fight for equality for all people with disabilities and underprivileged groups by regularly posting on his blog and engaging in community outreach and other forms of advocacy. He serves as the principal blogger for The Hive’s website and strives to expand the organization outreach whenever possible.
Jason can be reached at jason@theinclusivehive.com.
